7 Reasons Why You Should Use Natural Skin Care Products

Pollution. Dangerous chemicals. Damaging sun rays.

Every day, you walk right through harmful elements that assault your skin. Unfortunately, this is a product of modern life and there’s simply no getting around all of them.

Fortunately, your skin works hard for you, acting as a protective barrier to the things you’re exposed to every day. However, as hard as it works, your skin can’t keep everything out and many chemicals slip past your skin and into your body.

Take, for example, your skin care products. If you’ve been heavily dependent on chemical-based products to treat your skin issues, you’re practically doing more harm to your skin.

So, what should you do?

The answer is quite simple: Switch to natural skin care products.

Now, if you are feeling edgy about making the switch, here are 7 good reasons to convince you.

1. Less exposure to chemicals

You are likely exposed to dozens of chemicals each day in your bathroom. One study found that women are exposed to 168 chemicals every day with just 12 personal care products/and or cosmetics.

Men tend to use fewer products but are still exposed to 85 chemicals each day. Alarmingly, teens tend to use 17 products each day, significantly increasing their chemical exposure.

Using skin care products with natural ingredients significantly reduces your level of exposure to those harmful chemicals.

2. Your insides become safer

While your skin works hard to protect your body from harmful elements, it can’t prevent every absorbable chemical from penetrating your skin. Once the chemical has been absorbed, it can enter your bloodstream and travel to other areas of your body.

Your beauty routine might make you feel pretty in the moment, but if it’s full of harmful chemicals, your body will suffer in the long run.
Instead of worrying about that, get some peace of mind and use products with natural ingredients. This way, you won’t have to worry about any harmful chemicals entering your bloodstream.

3. Standard skin care products are not adequately tested for safety

As consumers, we tend to think that if a product is on a shelf, it’s been tested for safety and we can feel confident about purchasing and using it. In a perfect world, that would happen.

But surprisingly, the FDA does not need to approve every ingredient that goes into skin care products. That responsibility rests on the companies who are making the product.

Can we say conflict of interest?

There are more than 13,000 chemicals used in cosmetics but only about 10% of those have actually been tested for safety. If you’re bad at math, that means only about 1,300 chemicals circulating the store shelves have actually been found to be safe.

Are you certain all of your products contain only those 1,300 “safe” chemicals?

No, of course not.

4. Natural skin care products are better for the environment

When you wash your hair, shampoo and conditioner go down the drain. When you wash your face, makeup is washed away, too.

If you’re using standard skin care products which are full of known and unknown chemicals, those chemicals are making their way into the environment. And because they don’t break down, they stick around for a longer time.

The bad thing is that those chemicals are damaging precious ecosystems.

Natural skin care products, on the other hand, are free of harmful chemicals, so you can feel better about your impact on the environment when you shower. These products are most often made of ingredients that are farmed organically and in sustainable ways, too.

5. Your skin may look better

The harsh chemicals and fragrances in standard skin care products are often irritating to many people. They can cause more blemishes, breakouts, and rashes.

When you choose natural skin care products, you’re choosing to put ingredients on your skin that are made to work with your skin and not against it.

Their ingredients can boost your skin regeneration, leading to a fresher, more youthful appearance. Plus, many natural products are full of antioxidants that protect your skin.

Vitamins from natural ingredients can aid in collagen production and help repair damaged cells. This leads to fewer wrinkles and firmer skin.

Many natural skin care products contain Vitamin C, which fights free radicals. They also have vitamin E, a soothing vitamin that repairs the skin and Vitamin A, which freshens up the complexion and repairs the skin.

6. Your nose knows

Don’t forget about the fragrances of standard skin care products. Those scents are added to cover up the chemical smells from their artificial ingredients.

Artificial fragrances can cause damage to the endocrine system of the body, lead to skin irritation, and give you a massive headache.

Unfortunately, companies aren’t required to reveal the ingredients of their scents because they’re considered to be “trade secrets.” So, there’s really no way for you to know what you’re putting on your body.

Natural skin care products, on the other hand, have no icky scents to cover up. They rely on their own natural ingredients for their scents.

If natural essential oils are also used, they can even offer relaxation.

7. Avoid certain infertility issues

Traditional skin care products often use ingredients containing endocrine-disrupting phthalates or parabens.

Parabens work to extend the shelf life of the product but they can actually work to shorten your own life. Plus, they can cause reproductive issues in both men and women, leading to male infertility and a shorter reproductive lifespan for women.

Endocrine disruptors have been linked to testicular cancer, too. The more exposure to these endocrine-disrupting chemicals you receive, the more at risk you are of developing those reproductive issues.

Natural and organic skin care products are free of these harmful risks. Their ingredients don’t negatively affect your body.

When it comes down to it, natural skin care products are safer for you, your children and the environment. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that they nourish your skin and enhance your beauty.

If you think about it, the choice seems obvious, doesn’t it?
