Top Mistakes You Could Be Making With Your Concealer

Concealers aren’t always nice. There are times they’re good and sometimes they’re evil, exposing your most hated flaws just when you need them concealed.

But, when you know exactly how to apply your concealer, it can actually be your skin’s best friend. For that reason, here are the top concealer mistakes you need to avoid.

1. Using the same concealer for every issue

Concealers are supposed to hide imperfections, but it doesn’t mean that they’ll work for all imperfections. Keep in mind that not all concealers are formulated the same way.

For your under eyes, you want something that’s less dry. This way, it won’t settle into your fine lines and wrinkles.

For spot concealing, you need something thicker and rich so you’ll be able to build the coverage.

Color selection matters, too. Take, for example, your undereye circles.

Dark circles aren’t going to fade away with just your regular concealer. You need a peach-toned concealer to cancel out the blue.

2. Applying your concealer first

Now, this is a bit tricky.

Applying your concealer and canceling out all your blemishes can give you a smoother result. It’s a good trick if you really have tons of blemishes you need to cover out and you need to apply a thicker layer.

But, if you want to reduce the amount of concealer you need and if you want to get a more natural looking result, apply your concealer after your foundation. Wearing less makeup can help your skin stay fresh.

3. You’re stroking your concealer

Concealers aren’t supposed to just sit on top of your skin. They need to blend into your skin so that they’ll look more natural.
So, instead of stroking, use a patting motion whenever you’re applying your concealer. Pay more attention to the edges and remember to blend it out to the surrounding areas.

4. Not setting your concealer

Sometimes, even the most well-blended concealer won’t last long on the skin, especially if it hasn’t been set properly.

Just like the rest of your makeup, your concealer needs that final step to make sure it stays in place and that step involves your powder. Just make sure to take extra care when setting your under eye concealer so you won’t get any powder inside your eyes.

And if you happen to be using acne treatment, you can skip the powder as it can only make the dry skin around your zits a lot more noticeable.

5. Using way too much concealer

Your concealer is one of the few things in your makeup kit you shouldn’t be using too much. If you layered it on your skin too thickly, it will not only look cakey but it can also make your blemishes and skin issues a lot more noticeable.

In applying your concealer, always use a light hand and layer on gradually. It’s actually easier to add more product than to remove some without taking everything off.
